As part of a series of meetings to seek sister city partnerships between Afghan and U.S. cities, Ambassador Hamdullah Mohib met an Afghan delegation who is visiting the U.S. to attend the annual Sister Cities International conference in Washington D.C.
The delegation that included the Mayor of Herat, Mr. Farhad Niyaesh, and the Chairperson of the Herat Sister City Committee and Member of the Herat Provincial Council, Ms. Somaia Ramish will be visiting Council Bluffs, Iowa to sign a document of friendship with their American city partner.
The Ambassador welcomed the delegation and said the Embassy would make every effort in working towards the establishment of such city partnerships. “Following our discussion just yesterday on the San Diego-Jalalabad partnership, I am glad to see the Herat Sister City project happening.”
He said such connections were the key to increasing people-to-people exchanges and cultural understanding.
Mayor Niyaesh thanked the Embassy for its efforts in helping American cities find their Afghan partners and said people of Herat were so happy to see their city connected to its sister cities in the US.
